Meet Wendy Thompson: California Care Recovery’s Q3 Employee of the Quarter

At California Care Recovery, the healing that happens in our therapy rooms, detox houses, and group sessions depends on a team that most clients never see. Behind every admission, every insurance verification, and every paycheck that keeps our clinicians focused on care, there is someone making sure the organization runs smoothly, responsibly, and sustainably.

This quarter, we are proud to recognize one of those essential people. Our Q3 Employee of the Quarter is Wendy Thompson, our Director of Finance & Administration. Wendy’s steady leadership, financial expertise, and quiet dedication help make it possible for California Care Recovery to keep doing what we do best: providing compassionate, evidence-based addiction and mental health treatment in Orange County.

Who is California Care Recovery’s Q3 Employee of the Quarter? Wendy Thompson, Director of Finance and Administration, is California Care Recovery’s Q3 Employee of the Quarter. She oversees the organization’s financial and administrative operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll, helping ensure the company’s financial health so the clinical team can focus on patient care.

A Trusted Partner From Day One

Wendy’s connection to California Care Recovery began before the company even opened its doors. She had already built a strong working relationship with our founder and CEO, Jason Bouquet, through her work at another one of his businesses.

“Before joining California Care Recovery, I worked for the Founder & CEO, Jason Bouquet, managing the financial operations of one of his other companies,” Wendy explains. “When he launched California Care Recovery, I expanded my role to oversee the company’s finances as well.”

That kind of continuity is rare, and it speaks to the trust Jason placed in Wendy’s judgment and integrity. When you’re building a treatment center where people’s lives and recovery are on the line, having a finance leader you already know and rely on is invaluable.

A Passion for Financial Stability and Growth

While many people think of finance as a numbers-only job, Wendy sees it as the foundation that allows an organization to thrive. Her motivation comes from knowing that a well-managed company can grow, serve more people, and weather challenges.

“I have a strong passion for finance and take pride in maintaining financial stability, supporting business growth, and helping ensure the company operates efficiently and thrives,” she says.

That pride shows in her work. In a field where treatment centers must balance high-quality care with complex insurance billing, regulatory requirements, and day-to-day operating costs, Wendy’s focus on stability helps California Care Recovery remain a reliable place for clients and families to turn.

What Does a Director of Finance & Administration Do at a Treatment Center?

Wendy’s official title is Director of Finance and Administration, and her responsibilities touch nearly every part of the organization.

“I oversee the company’s financial and administrative operations, including accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), payroll processing, and other key financial responsibilities,” Wendy shares. “My role is to help ensure accurate financial management, efficient administrative processes, and the overall financial health of the organization.”

In practical terms, that means Wendy helps make sure:

  • Revenue from services, including insurance reimbursements, is tracked and collected accurately
  • Vendors, facilities, and suppliers are paid on time so programs run without interruption
  • Payroll is processed correctly, so clinicians, nurses, and support staff can focus on clients
  • Administrative systems run efficiently behind the scenes
  • Leadership has accurate financial information to plan for growth

Why Finance Matters to Patient Care

It’s easy to overlook the connection between a finance department and a client’s recovery, but it’s real. When the business side of a treatment center is healthy, clinicians have the staff, resources, and stability they need. Detox houses stay comfortable and well-maintained. Programs can expand to meet the needs of the community. And clients and their families can trust that the organization they’ve chosen will be there for them, from residential detox and treatment through long-term recovery.

Wendy’s careful stewardship is one of the reasons California Care Recovery can stay focused on what matters most: helping people heal.

Inspired by a Team That Truly Cares

Unlike our therapists, nurses, and case managers, Wendy doesn’t spend her days on-site with clients. Much of her work happens behind the scenes, but that hasn’t kept her from seeing the heart of our team up close.

“Although I do not work directly alongside the California Care Recovery team on a daily basis, most of my interactions with them take place through email, text messages, and occasional phone calls,” Wendy explains.

Even from a distance, what stands out to her most is the team’s commitment to the people they serve. “In my interactions with team members, I have been impressed by their passion, commitment, and dedication to supporting the patients at California Care Recovery,” she says.

For Wendy, that dedication is what makes the work meaningful. “It is inspiring to see the genuine care they bring to their work and the positive impact they strive to make in the lives of those they serve.”

That perspective is a reminder that every role at California Care Recovery, whether clinical or administrative, is connected by the same purpose. From our mental health treatment team to our alumni program, everyone plays a part in helping clients build a healthier future.

Finding Balance in the Ocean and Beyond

At California Care Recovery, we believe that taking care of yourself is essential to taking care of others, and Wendy is a great example of that philosophy in action. Like many on our team, she finds her reset along the Southern California coast.

“First and foremost, spending time in the ocean is what keeps me grounded, recharges me, and brings me a sense of balance,” Wendy says.

She’s not alone in feeling that way. Researchers with the BlueHealth project have found that visits to coastal areas are linked to some of the strongest mental well-being benefits of any type of “blue space” environment.

Staying Active, Energized, and Focused

When she’s not in the water, Wendy keeps moving. “Outside of that, I enjoy staying active by going to the gym, riding my bike, and playing pickleball,” she shares.

For Wendy, staying active isn’t just a hobby. It’s how she brings her best self to work. “Maintaining an active lifestyle helps me stay energized, focused, and balanced both personally and professionally.”

That mindset reflects what we teach our clients every day. Regular movement is one of the most effective, accessible ways to support mental health, and the CDC notes that physical activity can improve mood, reduce anxiety, and support better sleep. Wendy’s routine of ocean time, cycling, workouts, and pickleball is a great reminder that balance is built one healthy habit at a time.

Thank You, Wendy Thompson

Wendy, thank you for the integrity, precision, and care you bring to California Care Recovery every day. Your work may happen behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across our entire organization, from the clinicians who can focus fully on their clients to the families who trust us during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Congratulations on being named our Q3 Employee of the Quarter. This recognition is well deserved.

This is truly the only residential treatment center that I actually felt a part of the family and I've been to over 10 places. They made me feel welcome from the start and the staff is loving and caring. I couldn't ask for a better experience and I would give it a chance if you want to stay sober. This is the best place to be if you really want this. Peace & love<3

California Care provided excellent service. The team helped me navigate through the treatment process when my husband needed help. They communicated with me throughout the entire process which gave me peace of mind during a scary and stressful time for my family. They took our insurance and made the process as easy as possible. I have nothing but good things to say about California Care.

Look no further, this recovery program is the best! Jason, Holly, Myles and staff make the experience as good as it gets. In terms of treatment, California Care is, hands down, the best in the business.

My experience here was a good one, the detox house was modern and comfortable, the staff is nice and genuinely interested in the success of their clients, and the outings/activities are better than other detoxes like going to the movies, beach outings, and AA, NA, and CA meetings regularly. My only complaint is that in my experience some of the outings were unprepared prior which lead to some improvising and running in circles

This is a review from a mothers perspective regarding California Care. They have been absolutely phenomenal to work with regarding my sons care and have worked tirelessly to get insurance to cover the treatment deemed necessary for his success in recovery. Hollly provided me with updates every step of the way and it never felt like I was "bothering" them. Thank you Holly for being on our team when the world of insurance was fighting against us. Prior to California Care, when looking at facilities to treat my son, I was distracted by the location and the facility pictures. Please don't make the same mistake I did and get it right the first time. This is one of the places that even my son has agreed with me that the staff are very caring and very nice. He actually likes them and wanted to do residential. Any mothers in my situation would know that this is a sign of hope or the right place. I just happen to think this is both and the turning point. To the people and staff at CCR - Keep doing what you are doing. You are giving people not only a chance but hope. I cannot thank you enough. To Jason, they owner, CCR is not like the others... stay that way.

I can’t say enough great things about California Care. I came in here completely broken. They take great care of you in the detox process and have beautiful, clean facilities. During residential, you’ll learn about the disease, ways to cope, get taken to meetings, fed great meals and how to live a life of sobriety. The staff is outstanding. I owe a lot to California Care. Thank you!
