Dedicated to Patient Accessibility

California Care Recovery has worked hard to become a preferred provider with the majority of major insurance carriers in order to make treatment more affordable and accessible. Access to quality care should be available to anybody seeking treatment for a chronic condition, such as addiction, regardless of their financial situation. It is critical that those suffering from addiction get the appropriate level of treatment in order to achieve sobriety and long-term recovery. At California Care Recovery, we work to ensure that you have insurance coverage or appropriate financial counseling to pay the costs of your addiction treatment to alleviate the worry and pressure associated with obtaining financial aid for rehab treatment.

Substance Use Disorders and Insurance Plans

Often, patients may not get the mental health care they need because they are unsure of where to begin. Consult with your primary care physician or another health care expert if you are experiencing mental health difficulties. Inquire with them about connecting you with appropriate mental health care.

You may use these resources to obtain assistance for yourself, your friends, your family, or your students if you do not have access to a health expert who can assist you in your situation. For far too long, insurance coverage was too complicated, difficult to get, and discriminated against those suffering from mental illnesses and substance use disorders (SUDs). A lack of understanding existed around the fact that mental health and drug use problems are just as essential as physical health and that failing to provide treatment can be debilitating and even life-threatening.

According to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), benefits for mental health and substance use disorders must be equal to those provided by health plans and insurers that provide basic medical and surgical coverage. In practice, however, parity is only significant if health insurance plans execute it properly, customers and providers understand how it works, and sufficient supervision is in place.

Essential Benefits: Addiction and Mental Health Coverage

Mental health and drug addiction treatment are included as essential health benefits by all Marketplace plans. As such, all plans should cover:

  • Behavioral health treatment, such as psychotherapy and counseling
  • Mental and behavioral health inpatient services
  • Substance use disorder (commonly known as substance abuse) treatment

The particular mental health benefits you get will vary depending on your state and the health plan you choose. You'll find a detailed breakdown of what each plan includes in the documents provided by your insurer. Pre-existing mental and behavioral health conditions are covered and spending limits aren’t allowed. Furthermore,

  • Marketplace plans can’t deny you coverage or charge you more just because you have any pre-existing condition, including mental health and substance use disorder conditions.
  • Coverage for treatment of all pre-existing conditions begins the day your coverage starts.
  • Marketplace plans can’t put yearly or lifetime dollar limits on coverage of any essential health benefit, including mental health and substance use disorder services.

Certain "parity" safeguards between addiction and mental health benefits are required by law in the marketplace. In principle, this implies that the restrictions placed on mental health and drug misuse treatments cannot be more stringent than the restrictions placed on medical and surgical treatment. The following are some of the limitations covered by parity protections:

  • Financial — like deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket limits
  • Treatment — like limits to the number of days or visits covered
  • Care management — like being required to get authorization of treatment before receiving benefits
