When to Seek Help for a Mental Health Condition

Everyone has hard days, but when difficult thoughts, feelings, or behaviors start to interfere with daily life, it may be time to reach out for professional support. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, mental illnesses are common, and many people benefit from treatment that combines therapy, medication, and support.

Common signs it may be time to seek help:

  • Persistent sadness, hopelessness, or loss of interest in things you once enjoyed
  • Excessive worry, fear, or panic that’s hard to control
  • Intense mood swings or emotions that feel overwhelming
  • Difficulty sleeping, eating, or concentrating
  • Pulling away from friends, family, or daily responsibilities
  • Using alcohol or drugs to cope with difficult feelings
  • Reliving past traumatic experiences through flashbacks or nightmares

If you or someone you love is in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 or call 911.

Levels of Care

Treatment That Fits Where You Are

Every condition can be treated at the level of support you need right now. Many people start with more structure and step down to fewer hours as they build stability.

Dual Diagnosis

When Mental Health and Substance Use Overlap

Many people living with depression, anxiety, trauma, or another mental health condition also struggle with alcohol or drug use. When both are present, it's called a dual diagnosis, or co-occurring disorders.

Treating one without the other often leaves the door open to relapse. Our dual diagnosis program treats both at the same time, with one coordinated plan that addresses the connection between them.

Mental Health Conditions FAQs

What mental health conditions does California Care Recovery treat?

We treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD and trauma, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, other personality disorders, and sex addiction. We also treat co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders through our dual diagnosis program.

How do I know if I need mental health treatment?

If difficult thoughts, feelings, or behaviors are making it hard to work, sleep, maintain relationships, or handle daily responsibilities, it may be time to reach out. You don't need to be sure. Our team can talk through what you're experiencing and help you decide on next steps.

Do I need a diagnosis before starting treatment?

No. Many people reach out before they have a formal diagnosis. When you begin treatment, our clinical team completes an assessment to understand your needs and build a personalized treatment plan.

What levels of mental health care do you offer?

We offer mental health residential treatment with 24/7 support, as well as outpatient care at our Laguna Hills location. Our outpatient options include a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), which meets 5 days a week for 4 hours a day, and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which meets 3 to 5 days a week for 3 hours a day.

Can you treat mental health conditions and substance use at the same time?

Yes. Many people experience both, and treating them together is the evidence-based standard for lasting recovery. Our dual diagnosis program addresses mental health and substance use in one coordinated treatment plan.

Does insurance cover mental health treatment?

California Care Recovery accepts most major PPO insurance plans. Our admissions team can verify your benefits at no cost to you and explain your coverage before treatment begins.
