New Year Goals
Updated: Feb 28, 2021
I think it is safe to say that most people are glad that 2020 is behind us and look forward to a new year, a better year. It is traditional to set goals for the new year. Unfortunately, goals become expectations not only of ourself, but also expectations of other people, places
and things that we really have no true control over. I need to try and remember that a goal is something we strive for, but achieving them is not guaranteed. I need to also remember to be kind to myself and others when goals are not met.
For myself, it is so very important to never let the healthy idea or plan of a "goal" to become an expectation. When the expectation is not met, it results in frustration, disappointment, and resentment. That state of mind, way of thinking, is not how I want 2021 to be for any of us.
So my first goal for 2021 will be to do my best not to allow my efforts or the efforts of others to somehow become an expectation of mine. This will be a goal that I need to reset on a daily basis because I need to be reminded that life should be set on goals, not expectations and especially not the expectations of others.
