Meet the Team: Kaylee Crafton, MSW, ASW – Primary Therapist

At California Care Recovery, our mission is powered by the incredible individuals who dedicate their lives to helping others find healing. While the journey often begins with a phone call, it is sustained through the deep, transformative work that happens in the therapy room. This quarter, we are proud to spotlight a clinician who brings both high-level expertise and a deeply personal understanding to our team: Kaylee Crafton, our Primary Therapist.

A Calling Built on Root-Cause Healing

Kaylee Crafton Primary Therapist at California Care Recovery

For many, the path to becoming a therapist is a late-career shift, but for Kaylee, the calling was clear from a young age. Having grown up in an environment shaped by the complexities of dependency, she developed a level of empathy that can’t be taught in a classroom.

“I knew I wanted to work in the mental health field since I was a teenager,” Kaylee explains. “Growing up in an environment impacted by addiction, I saw firsthand how often substance use is a symptom of unaddressed trauma or other mental health concerns. That experience shaped my desire to help people get to the root of what they’re struggling with, rather than just treating the surface.”

This commitment to “root-cause” healing is what defines Kaylee’s work at California Care. She understands that sobriety is the first step, but true recovery requires unearthing the “why” behind the use—an approach that aligns perfectly with our clinical philosophy in Orange County.

An Integrative Approach Grounded in Connection

With a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Michigan State University, Kaylee brings a powerhouse of clinical knowledge to California Care. Since 2017, she has supported adolescents and adults across nearly every level of care, and she uses that experience to meet our clients exactly where they are.

However, Kaylee is the first to admit that even the most advanced clinical tools are ineffective without a human connection. “My approach begins with building rapport,” Kaylee says. “Without a strong foundation of safety and trust—without clients feeling like they truly have someone in their corner—many therapeutic interventions aren’t as effective.”

Once that safety is established, Kaylee utilizes an integrative toolkit to support her clients’ individualized goals, including:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
  • DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • IFS (Internal Family Systems)

She also places a high value on the personal beliefs of those she works with. “I value integrating clients’ personal beliefs and ideologies; if someone is religious or spiritual and finds that meaningful, I like to incorporate that into the work,” she notes. For Kaylee, the most rewarding part of the job isn’t just the clinical success—it’s the relationship. “I feel excited when clients look forward to sharing positive moments, and I feel honored when they trust me enough to share the more difficult ones as well.”

Authenticity as a Clinical Tool

What makes Kaylee such a vital part of the California Care Recovery family is her commitment to being her authentic self. She brings empathy, patience, and a grounded presence to every session, but she also isn’t afraid to bring a sense of humor. She believes that the therapeutic bond is strengthened when we can laugh together, honor each person’s individuality, and value their personal ideologies—whether they are religious, spiritual, or secular.

For Kaylee Crafton, the most rewarding part of her work is the connection. She finds joy when clients feel excited to share their positive “wins” and feels deeply honored when they trust her enough to navigate their most difficult moments.

Finding Renewal on the Orange County Coast

At California Care Recovery, we know that to care for others effectively, our team must also prioritize their own well-being—a philosophy Kaylee embodies perfectly. Living in Southern California provides the perfect backdrop for her to stay grounded.

“I love a beach day with my loved ones and watching my pup run around in the sand!” she shares. These moments of peace near the ocean provide the restorative power she needs to return to the therapy room with a full heart and a clear mind.
